Online Book Store
If you’re tired of trying to find what you want at a busy local book store, then an online book store may be just the answer. Many of these sites have just the books you are looking for; popular books and rare finds, at reasonable prices and free shipping included with some purchases. Online book stores have just as much or more for sale than the local book stores, and you make better use of your time and save gas too! No one enjoys taking the time to drive to the book store, fighting the crowds, and not coming home with what was the purpose of the trip in the first place! If you call ahead and the clerk tells you the computer says it’s in stock, don’t always count on it being there when you go to pick it up. It might be just your luck that there is only one copy of the book, but it isn’t on the shelf where it’s supposed to be. Can’t find it, now what?

Bestseller Book Lists Some of us are purists when it comes to bestseller books and lists. We ignore the lists, read what appeals to us by cover, title, first paragraph, and book blurbs or other reviews…and then find to our delight that the book we just carried around from room to room until we finished it is one of the bestseller books, or is touted by Oprah on the boob tube. Some of us prefer, though, to consult the bestseller books lists—of The New York Times, a writer’s magazine, or a flyer emailed to us by one of the major bookstores.

Book Cases
Once again, I am up against the book cases dilemma. Do I buy or build or leave the thousands of books in boxes? You see, I am moving again. Each time I move—with the hopes that the new residence will provide some stasis, some sanity, some degree of permanency—I find within a few weeks of starting to unpack that the landlord or roommate is crazy, passive aggressive, a drunk, or a thief. And I have to go through the stressful process all over again. So the books often now stay in boxes during the probationary period, and only those I have the most immediate need for get schlepped onto makeshift bookcases—bricks and boards, milk crates, or even cardboard boxes they are already in…just flipped to their open sides so I can read the contents. read more>> |

Book Club Recommendation
You’re away from your literate friends who have similar reading tastes, you’ve been out of school for quite some time, and you don’t have access to a hip librarian or brick-and-mortar bookstore or informative publications like the New York Times Book Review. For quite sometime you plan on shifting to art music but you are hungry for some good literature. Where or to whom do you turn? read more>> |

Writing Resources
After being online for a couple of years, every day, fifteen hours a day, and after searching, researching, finding, and collecting writers’ resources that cover all the bases for a freelance writer, you might have little time left to actually WRITE. As a writer my whole life and a college instructor for about a fourth of that life, I always wanted, always felt compelled to write for a living. But I taught at night, helped students in a learning center during the day, and usually had students over every weekend. So I was way to devoted to the human-end, way too invested in helping them write—and therefore had no time for my own efforts. read more>> |
